[i]siercia: The hell?

I just heard one of my (normally intelligent) co-workers come out with the following, while discussing North and South American indigenous people (other co-worker speaks English as a second language, so she stumbled over the word indigenous:

"we generally call them "indigenous... That's where the common name of Indian comes from, it's an abbreviation of the word indigenous."

Well, that's the first time I've ever heard that theory. I'd love fomr someone to prove him right though =)

[i]siercia: oh god.

I'd ask what I was doing still awake, but I pretty much know.

Man, I'm not very smart.

Please pass this on or - respond to:

Subject: renn fair August, in need of models
From: "Chelmsford Reiki" <chelmsford_reiki@yahoo.com>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Choice Treasures & Dark Sky Productions are organizing a RENN FAIR
Fashion show event on August 16th to gather used clothing donations for
a Mission to Ethiopia. There is a great need for adequate clothing for
the poor of the area.

With the support of Dina from
cloakmaker.com, providing the designs for the fashion show portion of
the event (2-3PM) and Maryann, cosmetologist for the ILN show "Just for
Today' we are expecting to meet our goal of 400 articles of clothing
donated for the Ethiopian people.

Chris Moran from Flash in Blue will be our MC, and the band will play a
live acoustic set after the fashion show. (3-4PM)

This
is an all ages event. Vendors and merchants are renting tables for the
event ($35). We will have local artists, crafters and vendors and to
complete the mystical atmospheres of magic and Renn Lore, our special
guests (Harry Potter Characters) are planned to make an appearance.

We need a couple of models willing to donate their time to the success of
the project.

Please hit reply with your level of interest

[i]luxefibre: ooochies.

july 23
so, i finally spoke to my friend heather the other day. i was having nightmares about her, so i was really relieved to hear that she was reasonably okay. she is the kind of person that always helps everyone, no matter what they need or if they deserve her help, but never asks for help herself. i am trying to be more aggressive about being there and calling than i normally would be. i am not like that at all, but i think in this case, it will be a good thing. i know she likes to feel important. and she deserves that.

yesterday, i attempted to make a version of one of the leaf pen and ink drawings that i did, but all in collage. i tried to research online how to do fine papercut collages, and just didn't come up with anything. i was unhappy with the result i got, and in many hours time was not very far along. if anyone has a good source for really elaborate collage how-to info, that would rock. basically, if you imagine the leaf in the above picture composed of tiny pieces of paper for each different patterned piece, and then i would use ink and/or gouache for all of the linework and possibly more pattern, shoot it to me. gah. anyway. i am keeping on it.

i have been working on knitted pieces for fall, i need to communicate with the boutique i am hoping to work with and try to find some more. i am so broke at the moment (broke as a joke), and i am hoping that fall will be financially better for all of us. again, i am really trying to use this less busy time to get more fine art done and attempt to enter more shows, try for more opportunities, try to get into some galleries. i am no good at it. i get so overwhelmed. i am really disorganized, through and through. i have a poor memory, so i need to not only write things down, but be able to see everything all the time. it is very frustrating. i don't know how to overcome it. i need a manager. i really do. i can put my head down and do the work, no problem. everything else? problem.

i had a fit of exhaustion today. i just felt really out of sorts. it is that time of the month, so i am crampy and have had some degree of headache or migraine at all times. i talked to barbe whilst getting different odds and ends done, i got off of the phone to get some of my work done that requires more thinking and just felt sick as hell. i had to lie down and ended up with the usual conking out, totally fell asleep, and when i woke up after jake got home, i felt horrible, full-on migraine. so i totally should get off of the computer. i do have a few links to share with you before i do...
okay, sonoshii blog. her work...wow. and she has amazing links, too. le swoon. her work literally speaks to me. i feel like i get it. if that makes sense. or even if it doesn't. what else? lovely work from an artist whose work i have had on my flickr contact list for ages.

my head is a-aching, so off i go. i really am trying to be better at blogging, like i used to be.

mwah!

[i]lepidosiren: EDOC and damned fishes

You may have noticed, perhaps happily, my silence with regard to the Oldsmobile. Well, the project has continued to present, um, challenges to learn from, and I've been feeling down about it. However! A sexy Stewart-Warner speedo, a layback shifter stick, fully-functional A/C, premium Copper header gaskets, and improved engine tuning are all in the works. Chop-Shop Customs has promised delivery on or before the beginning of next week.

You may have noticed, perhaps happily, my silence with regard to fishing. I've gone casting from shore at all times of day and night, tides incoming and outgoing, throwing live, fresh, frozen, and artificial baits from The Canal to Plum Island... Yeah. My targets, blues and stripers, are scarce this year, and they've grown wary after decades of pressure. I haven't caught shit. However! It is a pleasure to be outdoors, and every week I get a little closer to ferreting out the closely-guarded secrets of succesful surf casters, creatures even rarer and more elusive than the damned fishes.

[i]siercia: more insanity at work

an upgrade that... didn't go well.

12 1/2 hours later, and it's passable.

grrrr on me for not hearing what someone said and grrr on someone else for not being more clear.

This was, of course, supposed to be the 45 minutes of work before the rest of my day started. Hahahahaha

*sigh*

I'm going to bed now.

[i]siercia: Totally worth it

The exhaustion is worth it when I get to overhear Widget telling her frined (when she thinks I'm not listening) "oh my gosh, my mom and I had the MOST PERFECT day ever yesterday."

Now if only I could get her to remember that the next time I'm the "meanest mom ever", and get her to understand a littlePERSPECTIVE on life, things would be perfect on this end too.
